Spring Wildflower Walk Leaders: Jane Culnane and Leslie Reed Evans When: May 17, 2026 Time: 1pm-3pm Meet: Mt. Berlin Trailhead parking lot Spring ephemerals mark the beginning of flowers in New England, emerging before the full leafing of deciduous trees. Will we spy the deep maroon of trilliums, fanciful Dutchman’s breeches or yellow trout lily? Come enjoy a spring stroll through the northern hardwood forest at the base of Berlin Mountain to see what wild ephemerals are up and learn about these hardy early flowers. The walk will be cancelled in the event of heavy rain. __________________________________________________________________________ Directions: From Rt. 7, turn onto Rt. 2W by A-Frame Bakery towards Petersburg Pass. In 0.4 miles, turn left onto Torrey Woods Road, which parallels Rt. 2W. At the three-way intersection, continue straight onto Berlin Road (dirt). Follow Berlin Rd. for 2 miles until it dead ends in the parking lot by the old Williams College ski trail. Be aware that Berlin Rd. may be muddy and slippery if there has been a recent rain. Trail details: We will be walking along the WRLF Loop Trail, ~ 1 mile out and back trail. This trail goes down a short hill from the parking lot and then continues on a slight hill parallel to Haley Brook, downhill on the way out and uphill on the way back. We will not be crossing the brook. Some stretches of trail near the parking lot may be wet. There are some sections of trail with wooden bog bridges. Parking: There is a medium-sized dirt parking lot at the Mt. Berlin Trailhead (end of Berlin Rd., Williamstown). Facilities: There are no bathrooms or indoor spaces at this site.
What to bring: Please check the weather before arriving and bring appropriate clothing, waterproof boots, water
